Before transferring
SFTP moves files through an SSH-authenticated connection. Your server must provide SFTP, and the selected remote account must have the required permissions. A successful terminal login does not automatically grant write access to every directory.
Open SFTP Files from the connected workspace. Check the host and current path before uploading, downloading, moving or deleting anything.
Move a file
- Connect to the intended server and open SFTP Files.
- Browse to the remote directory. In a dual-pane layout, check the location represented by each pane.
- Select the upload, download, copy or move action appropriate to your source and destination.
- Review overwrite prompts rather than assuming an existing file is disposable.
- Wait for completion and inspect the destination. For important files, verify their contents or integrity independently.
A browser download handoff is not proof that a file reached disk: the browser can still prompt, block or cancel the save. Native and browser file selection also have different permissions.
Interruptions and limits
A progress bar or queued operation is not a completed transfer. After losing connectivity, inspect the transfer status and destination before retrying. Do not assume that closing the app preserves every transfer or that every route supports identical recovery behavior.
Managed services may apply size, traffic or destination limits. Self-hosting moves hosting responsibilities to the operator; it does not remove server permissions, network limits or all costs.
Use file editing and comparison for inspection, or clipboard attachments to pass a file path into a terminal after upload.
